Thomas Ming-Hui Stanka is a young researcher in photography history & theory and coordinater of various events regarding contemporary analogue photography. Currently he is studying the master program ‘Art History in Global Context‘ at FU Berlin. Born in 1995 in Darmstadt, Germany, Thomas moved to Berlin in 2014. Since picking up the camera himself in 2015, he became affiliated with several film photography associations in Berlin. Over the past three years he has been working on several exhibition projects with analogueNOW! and FK Kollektiv, mainly providing conceptual and press related texts and/or translations of such.

Thomas‘ holistic approach to photography research includes practical knowledge & skills aswell as academic education. This path lead him to different places and instituation to work and learn. Since 2018 he has been working as a recpetionst and working student for the auction house Grisebach. There he interned in the photography department for the preperation of the auction of the private photography collection of Stefan Thull in summer 2021. In an internship in autumn 2019 Thomas had the chance to work in the Hein Gorny Archive in the Collection Regard, where he supported the Archive with the digitalization of film and glass negatives and contact prints. His interest in archives and digitalization of photographic materials is currently being further developed as he is working in the Alfred Ehrhardt Foundation. Thomas‘ Bachelor Thesis dealt with the topic of subjectivity and objectivity and their construction in the works of Bernd und Hilla Becher in contrast to the artists of subjektive fotografie [sic!] foremost Otto Steinert.
